Order emails, part of DispatchThread
An email at each stage of an order, sent once
Received, confirmed, shipped with the tracking number, delivered, cancelled and refunded. Each one in your shop’s colours and your own words, sent when BigCommerce says the order has moved on, and never sent twice however many times it is told.

An early design, shown on a demonstration shop with invented customers, orders and stock. The finished module may look different.
For the customer
- Six emails, not one
- Received when they order, confirmed when payment is taken, shipped with the carrier and tracking number, delivered, and a plain email if an order is cancelled or refunded.
- Written for a phone
- Short, one thing per email, the order number in the subject line, and the items with their pictures, so nobody has to remember what they bought.
- Your shop, not ours
- Your logo, your colours and your wording, with replies going to your own inbox. DispatchThread is not named in them.
Sent once, and only once
- Driven by the order
- BigCommerce tells the module when an order’s status changes, and the module decides which email that means. Nothing is sent on a timer or a guess.
- Repeats ignored
- A store sometimes reports the same change twice. The second report is written down and nothing more is sent, so a customer never gets two shipped emails for one parcel.
- Tracking from the bench
- When the label is bought in DispatchThread, the shipped email carries the carrier and tracking number from that label.
For your staff
- Each one on or off
- Turn off any stage you do not want. For a stage sent from here, switch off BigCommerce’s own email so nobody gets two.
- A history for every order
- Every change reported and every email sent, with the time, so “did they get it?” has an answer.
- A test to yourself first
- Preview each email and send it to yourself before a customer ever sees it.
Built carefully, because it writes to your customers
An email is only ever about one order and only ever goes to the person who placed it. There is no button to send to everybody.
Every send is recorded against the order and the stage before it goes, so a repeat, a retry or a restart cannot send it again.
As with the rest of DispatchThread, it is built and tested on made-up customers. No real order is used to test it.
